Walk On The Wild Side At Suffern Nature Film Festival

SUFFERN, N.Y. -- The 3rd Annual Suffern Wild & Scenic Film Festival has announced its line-up for this week’s event.

The 2014 film, "An Education - A Father-Daughter Trip of Discovery," follows explorer Mike Libecki and his 11-year-old daughter, Lilliana, during her first skiing expedition to Antarctica. It is one of 12 to be screened at a Suffern film fest.

The fest starts at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, at the Lafayette Theater, 97 Lafayette Ave., Suffern. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The festival -- which includes a raffle and door prizes – features a dozen films.

Organizers are encouraging guests to come early the “old-school” Wurlitzer organ music in the historic theater.

The award-winning short films and documentaries planned are:

  • "Comes With Baggage: A Short History of Bicycle Travel from Boneshakers to Bikepackers"

  • "Leave It As It Is"
  • "Black Bears – Yosemite Nature Notes"
  • "The Fire Next Time"
  • "Joe"
  • "Won’t Pipe Down"
  • "The Important Places"

Proceeds from the event will go to benefit two local nonprofits, ROSA 4 Rockland (rosa4rockland.org) and Rivertown Film, (rivertownfilm.org).

ROSA is an environmental grass roots citizens group created to protect the watershed in Rockland and Bergen Counties.

Rivertown Film is devoted to exploring and promoting the art of the motion picture through film screenings and educational programs.

The Festival is sponsored by First Niagara Bank, the Lead Sponsor, with Gold Sponsors Bill Kolb Jr. Subaru, New York Life, and Congers Bike Shop.

Participants can have a special Dine-in-the-Theatre experience at the festival by preorder dinner.

Participating restaurants are listed on the Suffern Film Fest website.

Food can be picked up at the restaurants in biodegradable boxes and eaten at the theater.

Tickets are $18 in advance at brownpapertickets.com, and are $20 at the door.
